POSITION SUMMARY

batyr has grown from a small well-loved grassroots charity into a large mental health organisation that is evidence-backed and respected globally for its lived experience storytelling and peer-to-peer education. The Head of Brand and Communications will play an integral role in solidifying batyr’s positioning nationally and internationally, whilst at the same time advocating, protecting and leveraging batyr’s brand.

The position is responsible for developing and implementing engagement and communications strategies to support the delivery of initiatives in batyr’s strategic plan. The role will focus on building batyr’s brand and reputation and developing high level communications that engage a diverse range of audiences (including young people, educators, Government, funders/philanthropists and the mental health sector). All audiences need to be well represented and connect with the batyr brand, campaigns and messages, no matter if it’s young people in regional Australia to the Prime Minister on Capital Hill.

The Head of Brand and Communications is a senior leadership position at batyr and will be looked upon to represent the brand and values of the organisation each day internally amongst colleagues and externally amongst peers and the broader community. This role will report directly to the Director of Marketing and Fundraising based in Sydney.

The role is part of the Marketing and Fundraising team and has 1 direct report; Marketing & Brand Manager.

All candidates will need to hold a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one (1) month of starting the role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop communication, marketing and brand strategies aligned to the organisations 2030 strategy in collaboration with the Senior Leadership team and the Marketing & Brand Manager.
  • Develop batyr's brand positioning and narrative, collaborating with key stakeholders to create a robust communications plan for key audiences including government, funders and young people.
  • Lead the PR strategy and generate impactful stories to create media interest in batyr. Working with external consultants/agencies to strengthen batyr's influence and positioning.
  • Work closely with the Global Impact team to identify topics and policies where batyr should take a position and create narratives that champion lived experience/youth voices.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing & Brand Manager to translate communications plan into marketing activity and ensure a consistent messaging across all channels. Review overarching marketing plans and provide feedback/direction where necessary.
  • Continually improve processes to support the Marketing & Fundraising team to deliver outputs in the most efficient way possible.
  • Identify new relationships and manage current relationships with external organisations to increase the exposure of batyr's brand, campaigns and media opportunities
  • Lead the creation and review of compelling and informative reports and presentations as required, such as quarterly updates, annual reports and Board reports.
  • Actively contribute to creating a strong, high performing team culture; creating an environment where the team feel supported and inspired to try new things and to succeed.

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a comms/brand management role. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing brand and communications strategies across multiple channels for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in managing complex communications and crafting narratives to suit the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of the media landscape and experience shaping stories to secure media coverage.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing marketing budgets and preparing forecasts for annual planning.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with experience effectively managing a team.
  • Strong data analysis skills and ability to distil insights and learnings to help make decisions to improve performance.

DESIRABLE QUALITIES

  • A good understanding of the mental health space, including appropriate use of language
  • Experience using CRM systems to inform communications strategy
  • Proven experience enhancing existing systems and processes, and developing new ones; to ensure operational effectiveness.
  • Full Drivers Licence
