The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

We are seeking a Project Officer to provide project support for the delivery of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Cultural Safety Strategy program of work and associated activities. Demonstrating your lived experience grounded in Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander Ways of Knowing, Doing and Being, you will build strong and solid stakeholder relationships to ensure that shared objectives are met towards cultural safety .

 An exciting and newly created role will see you make your mark as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Project Officer at Ahpra. You will report to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Program Manager working closely with the National Director, Health Strategy Unit, Cultural Safety Strategy Teams along with other key internal and external stakeholders. The role is positioned within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Unit (HSU) and the Strategy, Policy and Workforce directorate. 

This is a full time ongoing position based in Brisbane.

In this role you will:

  • Develop policy briefs, consultation papers, memoranda, meeting papers (e.g, minutes, agendas) and associated documents that assist with messaging to key stakeholders about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Safety Strategy program of work along with supporting a cross-profession approach.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the chairs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Group and Working Groups.
  • Contribute to the development of embedding culturally safe practices into the governance and operations of Ahpra and National Boards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Health Strategy Unit team, internal and external stakeholders to ensure that strategic objectives are met. 

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Lived experience grounded in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, doing and being
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cultural safety and anti-racism practices
  • Qualification and / or relevant experience in health, policy, or regulation
  • Experience supporting programs of work, committees and/or projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with well-developed verbal and written communications skills
  • Authenticity with a solution-focused approach to managing challenges
