The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) is the national agency responsible for administering the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (National Scheme) in partnership with 15 National Boards for the regulated health professions. 

This is a full time, opportunity that is based in either Melbourne or Sydney working a hybrid (2 office days) arrangement. 

National Director – Cyber and Information Security leads our information and cyber security vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with our business objectives. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and as a key member of the Technology Senior Leadership Team, you will oversee the development and implementation of programs designed to enhance cyber resilience and effectively manage information security risks. 

In this pivotal role, you will lead external threat assessments and organisational responses to strengthen security controls. You will advocate for a whole-of-organisation approach, promoting continuous improvement in delivering secure and reliable IT services. Additionally, you will manage governance and assurance programs, providing regular reports to the National Executive and Ahpra Board to ensure transparency and accountability in our security operations.

You bring expertise in risk management and a deep understanding of current information security technologies and best practices. Exceptional analytical skills are essential for conducting thorough threat analyses, and your experience in governance and compliance will ensure adherence to security standards. As a proactive problem solver and effective communicator, you can convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Lead the development, execution, and communication of a renewed technology vision and cyber security strategy aligned with organisational objectives. 
  • Lead the cyber security standing committee, providing risk-based governance and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity policies and regulations while managing information security risks within supply chains. 
  • Effectively communicate Ahpra’s cyber security vision to internal and external stakeholders, fostering awareness and promoting a culture of security throughout the organisation. 
  • Manage the organisational response to cyber security incidents, mobilising resources and ensuring effective communication, while also contributing to business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
