The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health practitioners. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered. 

The Policy and Project Officer supports the Podiatry Board of Australia (Board) to deliver its regulatory work plan and key projects. The role will support the Board’s policy goals and contribute to the regulation of the podiatry profession. 

The Policy and Project Officer will manage individual projects, including research and stakeholder engagement, and contribute to the development of registration standards, guidelines and policies, for consideration and approval by the Board.

We are seeking applications for a full time, fixed term position (12 month contract), we welcome applications from any location with an Ahpra presence. 

In this role you will: 

  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Officer, Podiatry, and the broader Ahpra team. 
  • Contribute expertise to managing projects, developing and implementing stakeholder plans, conducting research, including researching professional practice matters in order to prepare relevant registration standards, guidelines and policies for the Board.  
  • Manage schedules, project budget and overall project organisation to ensure requirements and project deliverable dates are clearly communicated, understood and executed, as required.  
  • Contribute to the preparation of agenda, policy papers and briefings for the Executive Officer and Board.
  • Ensure relevant meetings are well organised, briefing papers are of a high standard and decisions and actions are recorded and implemented in a timely manner, to meet Board requirements.  
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Board and relevant committee members

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following: 

  • Hold Bachelor level qualifications in health, policy, or communications.
  • Experience in the Australian health system/sector.
  • Experience in development of policy and advice, ideally relating to health or health practitioner regulation.  
  • Demonstrated project management, planning, time management, and organisational skills. 
  • Sound understanding of corporate governance and regulatory systems.  
  • Experience working with oversight Boards or Committees. 
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. 
  • High level administrative skills.  
  • The ability to build constructive and respectful relationships internally and externally including the ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and responsive, coping well under pressure, responding, and adjusting easily to changing work demands and circumstances.
