  • We are seeking applications for a full time, fixed term position, available for twelve months, located in any Ahpra Office.  

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health practitioners. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered. 

Supporting the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, the Project Officer – Midwifery Exams Clinical Advisor will assist to facilitate the outcome-based assessment (OBA) process, providing a pathway into the Australian Healthcare workforce for some internationally qualified midwives. 

The Project Officer – Midwifery Exams Clinical Advisor will use their relevant professional and clinical midwifery experience and subject matter expertise to support the clinical examination and assessment processes, particularly for the IQM objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE) and the multiple choice question (MCQ) knowledge examinations. The role will also maintain and improve the quality of these processes and support the wider Ahpra exam coordination team, policy and registration teams, and relevant committees.  

In this role you will: 

  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Project Officer – Nursing and Midwifery Exams Clinical Advisor, and the broader Ahpra team. 
  • Maintain and improve the quality of OBA procedures and processes from a professional and clinical perspective.
  • Ensure the ongoing governance and maintain the integrity of the examination process.
  • Provide expertise in clinical examination and assessment development (OSCE/MCQ) writing, rubrics and scoring, communication, orientation, and training materials.
  • Deliver outcomes that meet established delivery standards to ensure a consistent and clear experience for OSCE/MCQ candidates. 
  • Use your subject matter expertise to also prepare recommendations, quality reviews, and provide advice to relevant decision making groups, both verbally and in writing.

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following: 

  • Hold a Bachelor level midwifery qualification and registration as a midwife with the NMBA. 
  • A nursing qualification and registration as a nurse with the NMBA is desirable. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in midwifery clinical examination and assessment development. 
  • Relevant experience in a training and/or education environment. 
  • The ability to build constructive and respectful relationships with stakeholders, including the ability to work collaboratively within a team. 
  • Advanced verbal communication, negotiation, and influencing skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and responsive, coping well under pressure, responding, and adjusting easily to changing work demands and circumstances.
