The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
Strategy and Policy exists to protect the public through whole of National Scheme strategy, policy, engagement and regulatory governance functions that are effective and responsive. The directorate provides high quality services that are national and run across the professions we regulate. The Qualifications Assessment Policy and Projects Team (within Ahpra’s Accreditation Unit) works in collaboration with other teams within Strategy and Policy and Regulatory Operations, to effectively support assessment of qualifications held by individuals seeking to register as health practitioners in Australia, including overseas qualified practitioners. We do this by providing expert advice and guidance on specific matters, and undertaking projects related to qualifications assessment policy
This team will reduce the immediate high operational risk identified applications in responding to qualifications assessment requests from the internationally qualified Nurses and Midwives (IQNM) registration team, as other work progresses to implement a sustainable approach to this work. As such the role of the Qualifications Assessment Policy Officer will ultimately be able to analyse complex policy interpretation and will have the ability to problem solve on each application. There is no one rule that will fit all, so having a diverse, multi layered, well thought process is critical.
This is a full time fixed term (August 2025) position and can be located in either our Melbourne or Hobart Ahpra offices working a hybrid arrangement.
You will have demonstrated ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgement and work independently in a complex environment. You will be able to effectively prioritise and manage multiple tasks and deadlines. We are seeking someone with strong experience in policy interpretation, who takes a holistic review, and able to make decisions in a timely manner. Previous experience in qualifications assessment, education policy will be highly regarded.
You embody our values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration and Achievement which in turn builds on the trust and credibility you will develop with key stakeholders.
