The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

This is a full time, fixed term (parental leave, until January 2025) role based in our Melbourne, working a hybrid arrangement.  

About the Role  

The Senior Policy and Project Officer (Psychology) will work as part of a team to support the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) in their policy and standards development by researching professional matters as well as undertaking appropriate stakeholder consultation in order to prepare registration standards and professional codes, standards guidelines and policy which meet the National Boards requirements.

This position will also undertake project management in relation to a portfolio of Psychology activities.  

In this role you will:  

  • Develop and review registration standards and professional codes, standards, guidelines, and policy for the National Board which meet the objectives and guiding principles of the National Law and good regulatory practice  
  • Provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders in relation to registration standards and professional codes, standards, guidelines, and policy development 
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally  
  • Review and analyse best available evidence on international developments to inform best practice professional standards and policy for the psychology professions  

 About You  

You will be an experienced senior policy officer who has an excellent understanding of regulation in the public interest and demonstrated experience in policy development and policy writing. This role is a senior member within the team and will have a direct report, as such you will showcase great leadership qualities, fostering a supportive and mentoring role to members of the psychology team.

Communication and strong interpersonal skills will be professional and collaborative as you manage and engage key stakeholders internally and externally in this role. As an individual, your ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across internal and external stakeholders will be key.

 As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of expertise or professional practice  
  • Significant experience in the development of policy advice (ideally in relation to health regulation)  
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills  
  • Exceptional ability to engage and influence stakeholders both internally and externally
