The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered. 

This is a full time, fixed term (12 months, with possible extension) role, and whilst a preferred location is Melbourne, applications outside this jurisdiction are welcomed.  

Reporting to the Program Manager – Streamlined pathways (multi-profession), the Senior Policy and Project Officer – Streamlined pathways (multi-profession) supports Ahpra in its regulatory work through progressing the implementation and delivery of policy and relevant projects relating to Kruk Review recommendations.

A key focus of the role is to support the review of registration pathways for non-medical International Qualified Health Practitioners. That includes the development of new and revised streamlined pathways, registration standards, guidelines and relevant explanatory material. The role will ensure policy advice and guidance is consistent with current legislation, established approaches and agreed principles.

In this role you will: 

  • Participate in work on new or revised streamlined pathways that includes development or review of registration standards, guidelines and other explanatory materials.  
  • Participate in, and / or develop and implement project plans to ensure that streamlined pathways, registration standards, guidelines and other explanatory materials are developed within relevant time frames and funding.  
  • Coordinating testing and consultations with internal and external stakeholders on proposed frameworks, streamlined pathways, and new or revised registration standards.
  • Analysing and synthesising consultation findings.
  • Preparing agenda papers.
  • Develop implementation plans and materials for new or revised streamlined pathways, policies, standards or guidelines. 
  • Convene and provide secretariat support for meetings with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Develop communication materials for stakeholders, including for applicants, practitioners and relevant organisations. 

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following: 

  • Degree qualification in a relevant area of expertise or professional practice
  • Knowledge of, and previous experience in, assessment and/or registration processes.   
  • Considerable experience in the development of regulatory policy advice, ideally relating to health practitioner education, accreditation and/or regulation
  • Sound understanding of project management methodology. 
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills.
  • A good understanding of how governments regulate in the public interest, stakeholder consultation processes and probity issues.
  • Sophisticated written and verbal communication skills.
