Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital

Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital (BBWH) is looking for passionate and motivated veterinarians to join our weekend and flexible casual team.

BBWH is Australia’s largest mobile wildlife hospital located in the beautiful Northern Rivers region of NSW. We are a not-for-profit charity that was established in late 2020, and our mission is to conserve, protect and ensure positive welfare outcomes for Australian wildlife through treatment, rehabilitation, research, and education.

Our bespoke hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art digital radiography, endoscopy, ultrasound, and laboratory capabilities. We provide triage, medical and surgical treatment free of charge for a large variety of species including marine turtles, reptiles, birds, and mammals. We are a sentinel clinic for Wildlife Health Australia and participate in regular teleconferences and meetings to keep informed about emerging diseases. The hospital is also involved many several research projects and education programs.

We are a small but highly motivated team who care deeply for our patients and the people who care for them. Our motto is #forthewildlife and we are looking for someone who believes the same and wants to make a difference for our wildlife. We believe in a fun, positive and supportive culture in the workplace.

As a veterinarian with BBWH, you will be able to work with some amazing Australian species, work up patients at your own pace, contribute to research programs all over Australia, mentor veterinary students, have access to some of Australia’s most prominent wildlife veterinarians and more.

This position involves sole charge on weekends; however, you will be supported by the team as required. You may also cover sick and holiday leave. Above award wage remuneration based on experience.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 2 years’ experience in veterinary practice, and experience in the treatment and rehabilitation of wildlife
  • Strives to practice a high standard of care
  • Is hard working, well organised, efficient, and reliable
  • Has a sensible, pragmatic approach to treatment of injured, diseased, and orphaned wildlife
  • Has or is able to obtain tetanus, Q fever and rabies vaccinations
