Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the full lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. For over 20 years, we have been at the forefront of mental health research and have maintained a reputation as the face of mental health research and treatment in Australia. 

Through our unique ‘translational’ research approach, we turn our world-class research into treatments, prevention strategies, clinical services, educational programs, and e-health products. The Role

The Clinical Psychologist will provide high-level clinical assessment and care to patients on an individual basis and in groups within the Black Dog Institute. The role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic and enthusiastic team made up of clinical psychologists supported by a professional administrative team and patient care coordinators who contribute to a multidisciplinary, patient-centred team approach to client care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced level Psychology services including a range of individualised and group clinical care based on professional training reflecting current ethical clinical practice as required.
  • Provide comprehensive assessment and care planning monitoring client/patient progress adjusting treatment accordingly for complex management.
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary team to promote effective communication including verbal and written feedback to referring Doctor as required.
  • Maintain ethical and professional standards and professional development as required by relevant professional bodies and the NSW Psychologists’ Registration Board.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical records reflecting adherence to BDI policies, ACHS and legal requirements.

Skills & Experience Required 

  • Completion of  accredited postgraduate Masters’ or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology and five (5) to ten(10) years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Full registration with the AHPRA Psychology Board of Australia.
  • In depth knowledge and extensive clinical experience in the use of a variety of contemporary psychotherapeutic techniques e.g. experience providing individual therapy and running groups using CBT, DBT, Schema-Focused Therapy, EMDR and/or ACT modalities.
  • Experience in the use of evidence based, best practice treatments for both short term and longer term, time limited therapy.
  • Experience in delivering clinical care to people with trauma presentations and PTSD.
