Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. The Role

The registered Psychologist plays a key role in supporting research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the area of child mental health. The position will provide therapist support for Black Dog Institute’s digital intervention research projects for childhood anxiety.

This will primarily involve providing therapist support sessions as part of a guided digital intervention to research participants who are children.

This role offers flexible working hours and work from home options. The role reports to the Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Psychologist within Child Mental Health Research.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provision of therapist support sessions for each participant to assist them with completing the online intervention.
  • Reviewing diagnostic interview reports
  • Administrative and clerical duties associated with the provision of therapy and attendance at research and other meetings where necessary
  • Provide crisis support as needed
  • Provide therapy and clerical duties according to agreed protocols, responsibilities and timelines
  • Undertake all relevant mandatory training
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policy and procedures of the Institute and take all reasonable care to ensure your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself and others

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Psychology (including 5+1 and 4 +2 pathways)
  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Psychologist
  • Experience in delivering therapy to children up to 12 years old
  • Current working with children and national police checks or willingness to obtain
  • Previous experience with research projects is desirable
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • An understanding of and commitment to BDI’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
