Role responsibilities
Reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible for the financial accounting function as well as the people management and development of a mid-sized finance team.
Oversight of financial compliance and driving best practise financial processes/controls (with an eye to continuous improvement) will be a part of your responsibilities - as well as being a key internal business partner to the other divisions in the organisation.
- Preparation and review of accurate monthly financial results within strict deadlines to enable effective financial management.
- Manage the balance sheet and asset register, monitoring and following up any reconciling items.
- Oversee accounts payables, ensuring expenditure is approved, within budget and aligns with policy.
- Oversee accounts receivable, ensuring invoices are followed up and paid.
- Supervise the payroll function and review payroll processing as well as completion of EOFY payroll processes/reconciliations.
- Review and approve lodgement of monthly BAS, as well as review and approve lodgement of the annual FBT return (monitoring salary packaging and other fringe benefits).
- Preparation of the monthly accounting journals for the investment portfolio as well as the monthly investment performance report.
- Responsibility for the annual external audit process and the preparation of statutory annual financial statements for audit clearance and Committee & Board approval.
- Advise on cost effective procurement when replying to internal team inquiries (identifying and problem-solving high-risk areas within the process).
- Be an SME for finance/administration policies for all staff, staying current and being able to confidently advise on Australian/International Accounting Standards.
Essential Requirements
You will be commercially-minded, a passionate people manager as well as having strong technical accounting expertise (having the ability to delegate while being comfortable being hands-on). Proven experience in business partnering to build effective internal relationships will also be important for this position.
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business, Economics or similar, as well as a CPA or CA qualification - strong knowledge of technical accounting principles
- Robust experience in a complex, large organisation as well as experience in preparation of monthly profit & loss reporting (including a matrix of operating units).
- Experience liaising with internal/external auditors.
- Experience in drafting statutory financial accounts including cash flow statements.
- Advanced experience in the Microsoft Office Suite, Sharepoint, and accounting packages.
- Possess a growth mindset when dealing with change or challenges – be adaptable to different technologies and change.
- Exceptional time management skills, be able to prioritise and project manage competing priorities effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communications.
- Previous experience in the for-purpose sector is highly desirable.
