For over 30 years this exceptional charity has been raising funds for clinical trials research seeking a cure for one of the most common forms of cancer, affecting over 36,900 Australians each year and claiming a devastating 51 lives each day. Their research has led to the improvement in both the life expectancy and quality of life of people diagnosed.

About the Role

As the Philanthropy & Fundraising Manager you will take on the responsibility of overseeing and developing the organisation's fundraising team and programs.

This is a unique opportunity to build on your existing philanthropy and major donor experience whilst diversifying your fundraising skillset by managing a team responsible for a broad portfolio that includes major giving, bequests, direct mail appeals, acquisition, regular giving, and community fundraising.

You will play a critical role in shaping and executing a best-practice major donor and bequest program, building on existing relationships, identifying new prospects, and driving significant growth.

Your leadership will be pivotal in integrating and aligning fundraising strategies with the overall organisational goals, ensuring a collaborative and cohesive approach across all teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the philanthropy and bequest strategy to secure gifts, increase advocacy and grow income capacity.
  • Contribute to and manage the strategic direction of fundraising in alignment with the organisations strategic plan.
  • Oversight of all supporter management activities (including events) ensuring best-practice relationship management of supporters remains strong to nurture their ongoing support of the GI Cancer Institute.
  • Develop and manage a rolling stewardship and engagement program, including relevant events and tailored communications.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Board, and Management team to influence organisational strategy.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the fundraising team to achieve financial and non-financial targets, expand the supporter base, and increase overall income.
  • Implement and review the Fundraising strategy and budget, recognising performance and developing individual program strategies and budgets.
  • Deliver reports and presentations for the Board, CEO and COO as required.
  • Maintain a focus on donor needs and expectations, fostering a strong team ethic and collaborative culture.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience in philanthropy, supporter management, and non-profit sectors, preferably leading and coaching fundraising teams.
  • Demonstrated success in the full major donor cycle, research, prospecting, solicitation, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of fundraising revenue streams including planned giving, individual giving & community fundraising.
  • High emotional intelligence and confidence to convert a prospect to a confirmed donor.
  • An ability to influence and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including medical researchers and donors.
  • Ability to develop and deliver strategic initiatives within budget.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making abilities.
  • A champion for best practice use of CRM databases and data analysis.
