About the role

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Assessment Clinician will be part of the Non-Residential Alcohol and Other Drugs team that sits within the broader AOD programs and services portfolio providing a broad range of support to highly marginalised individuals and families as well as at risk communities.

The role will be responsible for the provision of person-centred AOD specific screening, assessment, treatment planning, and referral for clients accessing BCHS for AOD treatment who present with a diverse range of health, psychosocial and substance dependence concerns. The role is responsible for providing information, assessment and facilitating access to the BCHS’ AOD services as well as external AOD services.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in Social Work, Community Services and/or other community health related discipline.
  • Experience working within the AOD sector and/or completion of the AOD skill-set (or a willingness to undertake it within the first 12 months of employment).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social model of health and how to integrate these principles into practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing, case noting and program data reporting; ideally relating to alcohol and other drug practice and consumer outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and consumers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comprehensive understanding of harm reduction principles and practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of alcohol and other drug individual and group treatment practices, especially in relation to working with families.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and across a range of platforms.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.

Probity requirements

  • A Police Check (paid for by BCHS).
