We are looking for versatile, skilled, and reliable support workers willing to travel to Mosman Park, to assist an engaging, 37-year-old, with a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, in the comfort of his parents’ home, while building a team to support him in his own home in East Fremantle. This determined, articulate, university educated young man, has a great sense of humour, loves to travel, enjoys music and a good chat!

This position would suit those who have experience working with people requiring a high level of personal care. Daily tasks include showering, dressing, toileting (external catheter and bowel care), assistance with eating and drinking (oral intake with some enteral feeding via PEG), as well as manual handling for seating and positioning in his wheelchair, shower/chair commode and bed using a full hoist (one person transfer). The ability to support this young man’s current work, volunteering aspirations, therapy commitments (including stretching program and hydrotherapy) and to maintain and extend his social network, would be well regarded.

Please note that while this person communicates verbally, he is undertaking a literacy program and uses single switch software to send texts, email and voice messages, to control his environment (TV, streaming apps, etc), and to navigate his laptop.

Applicants with an interest in supporting the above technology as well as undertaking personal care, assisting with duties around the home including gardening, together with providing social support, are encouraged to apply.

A range of support shift days and times are available, between the hours of 7.30am-4.00pm (negotiable) across the week and weekends, extending to 24-hour care when in East Fremantle.

Support Worker hourly casual weekday rates from $40.00 per hour.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Applicants will require an NDIS Worker Screening, NDIS Worker Orientation Certificate, First Aid Certificate as well as a current Driver’s License, reliable car and be willing to be employed via a nominated registered NDIS provider.
  • Ideal applicants will be looking for a long-term role (casual or permanent), will be self-motivated, have great communication skills and a common sense approach.
  • Familiarity and experience with manual handling is essential, however on the job training will be provided to applicants willing to provide catheter, bowel and PEG care. Similarly training with the use of relevant switch technology will be provided to successful team members.
