About the role
Beyond Blindness currently runs a range of volunteer run or assisted recreational activities for our legally blind members.
These include, day trips, tours, pub meals, golf, bowling, dancing, exercise, choir, craft, tandem cycling, cooking, bingo, coffee and chat group overnight 3-day country tours.
While we have a membership of approximately 600, only a proportion of members access our recreational and leisure activities. Our goal will be to increase our participation rate by identifying and introducing new and more relevant activities.
Our activities are generally run in the community or out of our new activity centres at Campbelltown, Gawler, and Christies Beech. Activities are supported by five part time recreational engagement officers, our team of volunteer drivers and helpers and our fleet of 4 minibuses.
Recreation & Leisure Development Coordinator
We are looking for an experienced Recreation & Leisure Coordinator who will mentor our team, maximise the use of our facilities, identify and introduce new activities and grow our recreational volunteer support team. Key to your success will be your demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders to engage in a range of events and activities to promote recreation opportunities.
- Effective and empowering leadership to a dynamic team of Member Engagement Officers.
- Be responsible for researching and identifying relevant new recreational opportunities and activities suitable for a diverse range of legally blind members.
- Coordinate and mentor our existing team of recreational engagement officers.
- Increase the number of new members and existing member participation.
- Maximise the use of our volunteers, facilities and vehicles to support activities.
- Grow our pool of recreation support volunteers.
- Market and promote activities using social media, vision Australia radio etc.
- Assist regional members establish recreational support groups.
- Meet regularly with the CEO and Operations manager.
- Hold regular zoom and other meetings with the engagement team and volunteers.
- Prepare a monthly report on recreational and leisure activities.
- Help prepare and work within budget.
- Identify, apply for, implement, and acquit recreational grants.
- Identify relevant staff and Volunteer training opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to support regional and isolated members.
Key Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Recreation Planning, Sports Management, Community Development or experience working in a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver innovative recreation programs to meet the changing needs of the community.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining networks and ongoing relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in developing strategies, communications plans, action plans and reports.
- Be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- A positive, curious and flexible attitude.
