About this Position

The Compliance and Audit Specialist is responsible for developing and overseeing key quality and safety systems including, the internal and service delivery audit programs, accreditation and certification processes and audit, and continuous improvement. The Compliance and Audit Specialist works closely with business units and teams to support a culture of continuous improvement and compliance. The role will collaborate with the Policy Specialist role to ensure organisational policies, procedures and processes are, accessible, compliant and current.

Reporting to the Quality and Safety Manager the role works closely with all members of the Assurance team to support good quality and safety and compliance outcomes in particular the Senior Mental health Practitioner, Risk Specialist, and Policy Officer.

Member of the Quality and Safety Team that enables Beyond Blue to operate effectively and efficiently, and responds to business needs through fit for purpose, user-centric frameworks, governance, assurance, and advisory support – so our resources are used well, and our people make good decisions, balance risk with reward, and produce great community outcomes.

The role

The key duties of the role includes:

Compliance and Policy

  • Keep up-to-date on legal and/or regulatory changes that may impact the organisation and make recommendations where existing policies and procedures may require review, or where a gap is identified;
  • Support the policy review process in conjunction with the Policy Officer;
  • Maintain a compliance reporting register to ensure all obligations are met and resource planning can occur as necessary
  • Report to the Quality and Safety Manager on any material compliance or policy matters requiring attention
  • Develop and provide training for staff as required; and
  • Develop succinct and informative reporting on compliance.

Continuous Improvement

  • Promote the use of a continuous system across the organisation
  • Develop systems that support cross organisation continuous improvement including identification of continuous improvement, monitoring and regular reporting to management
  • Lead projects or support projects that support continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with business units to develop responses to identified gaps and support change and improvement

Audit and Accreditation

  • Oversee, manage and advise on the internal project and business area audit program delivered by third party providers
  • Implement and deliver the service delivery internal audit program to ensure the quality and safety of Beyond Blue delivered services
  • Identify ways to monitor the delivery of Beyond Blue services provided by third party service providers
  • In cooperation with the Quality and Safety Manager conduct organisational gap assessments and develop audit processes that support compliance with industry standards, policy or legislation
  • In cooperation with the Quality and Safety Manager maintain Beyond Blue’s accreditation against the National Safety and Quality Digital Mental Health Standards and other accreditation as required
  • Periodically review/audit compliance activities for accuracy and integrity.

Other

  • Oversee the organisation’s insurances including ensuring the renewal of policies;
  • Provide compliance and audit input as relevant into key projects and initiatives being undertaken by the organisation;
  • Actively engage and respond to the organisational risk framework.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of the organisation’s ethos, structure and operations.
  • Work as an effective and supportive member of the Operations team.
  • Network with other like organisation to exchange best practice information.
  • Undertake duties and activites as directed by the Quality and Safety Manager.

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • Formal qualifications in quality, audit, continuous improvement or significant relevant experience
  • Practical knowledge of Australian Standards pertaining to healthcare or human services
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and interpreting legislation/regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Strong understanding of, and experience with, quality management systems and continuous improvement
  • Experience managing organisational insurances
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with and gain support from colleagues
  • Sound problem solving skills and demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and present effectively to a variety of audiences
  • Effective planning and development skills, including the ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands
  • Knowledge of governance, risk and compliance software
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality, particularly when exposed to personal and/or sensitive information.
