Content Creator

Befriend

Befriend is a Boorloo (Perth)-based social enterprise sparking connected, thriving communities.

We’re currently looking for an experienced and confident content creator to spread the word about the work we’re doing and to inspire people to take meaningful steps towards living a more connected life.

About Befriend

Since our launch fourteen years ago, Befriend has grown to become a powerful change agent in the space of relationships and inclusion. Our grassroots community development initiatives have sparked 12,000+ West Australians to take action to nurture community connection, and our work in partnership with citizens, community organisations, researchers and government is changing the conversation around the power of community. We’re continuing to develop our ability to see the world - and ourselves within it - as a living system; ever-growing, interconnected and beautifully complex.

About the Team

We are a team of 17 kind, committed humans who care deeply about the world we’re living in and the people around us. No two teammates have had the same pathway into community building, and together, we knit a rich tapestry of diverse perspectives, experiences and passions into our offerings. We work in a fairly flat organisational structure, trusting and supporting each other to work autonomously and make informed decisions. We are avid learners, experimenters, collaborators, creators and do-ers. We view our organisation as a small microcosm of our community building work, where we value each others’ unique gifts and contributions and we create intentional spaces for growth, reflection, connection and fun.

Position Purpose

For some years now, we’ve been exploring a key question with Perth’s communities; what might help you to live a more connected and meaningful life? The insights we’ve gathered have helped to inform the different ways in which our team of Community Builders support people to nurture change in their own lives and communities.

We’ve been experimenting with different kinds of community experiences that support people to take their next steps towards being more connected. For some, this might look like attending one of Community Builder Karen’s workshops in Armadale on Mindful Self Compassion, where they’ll learn the art of connecting with themselves first, so that they can connect more deeply with others. For others, joining Community Builder Ella’s “Kickstart Your Community” conversation is the best place to dive in, to learn the practical strategies and techniques to launch their own community group or project. These newer opportunities build upon 14 years of experiences supporting people to initiate and join inclusive social groups through our Perth-wide network.

From a communications perspective, this growing diversity of community opportunities available through Befriend presents an exciting challenge for an experienced Content Creator. We’re looking for a team player who will help our Community Builders to spread the word about our expanding service offerings, support our promotional efforts in a clear and coherent way, and build awareness of “the Befriend of Today.”

Your key responsibility for this role:

  • Content planning, creating, scheduling and evaluating – In collaboration with our staff team, you’ll be writing and designing content that can be distributed across platforms and in community - e.g. social media, newsletters, web copy, flyers, business cards, zines, stickers, badges, banners… you get the idea!

We expect this will involve:

  • Supporting the Team with their promotional efforts - Collaboratively strategising and designing promotional material as new offerings unfold from the team.
  • Website administration (Wordpress) – Collaborating with the team and our website designer to redesign the flow of our website in a way that engages and invites new contributors at different stages of their journey.
  • Marketing Strategy Implementation - Working closely with our Campaign Lead, Kristin, to support the implementation of our new “Relationships Strategy”, which focuses primarily on i) story-telling, ii) developing marketing support systems for the team and iii) a brand refresh.

The Community is looking for:

  • An experienced communications wizard with a passion for creating purposeful and engaging content.
  • A skilled wordsmith who is confident on the tools (we currently use social media, Canva, Wordpress, Mailchimp, the Google Suite, and various video-editing software).
  • Someone who is both creative and analytical by nature.
  • A curious, deep listener who loves to translate complex opportunities into clear and simple invitations for different audiences.
  • A patient sense-maker who loves to see threads of connection and clearly communicate them.
  • An open-minded and open-hearted person.
  • Someone who enjoys creating and experimenting with new comms engagement approaches.
  • Someone who is highly organised, able to self-manage and work autonomously.

Position details and benefits:

  • This is a part-time fixed-term position (0.6 FTE) contracted until 30/6/25, with the possibility of extension.
  • Salary $71,616 pro rata, plus 11.5% employer superannuation contribution.
  • Optional salary packaging of up to $15,900 in tax-free pay per year.
  • Four weeks annual leave plus bonus Christmas leave period.
  • Work when you want, where you want. You do you.
  • A team of 17 change-makers, thinkers, do-ers and builders to support your creativity and growth. Read more about our team and work culture here.
