As the first point of contact for many, you’ll engage, screen, assess, and refer young people, coordinating their care across the four key service areas that headspace provides: mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and vocational and educational support. Your approach will help to establish a positive experience, facilitating early help-seeking and seamless access to essential intervention services.

This role requires someone who can skillfully assess each young person’s unique needs, conduct risk assessments, and develop effective action plans for any identified risks. You’ll work closely with the clinical team, participate in regular supervision, and contribute to case discussions, making sound decisions even in high-stress situations. The Intake Worker will also provide interim support for those awaiting further interventions, ensuring continuous care and support for all.

In addition to direct client work, you’ll be actively involved in community outreach, mental health literacy, and youth engagement activities.

This position calls for a dedicated professional who understands the frameworks and legislation relevant to supporting young people, is committed to ongoing professional development, and can build strong partnerships within the community.

If you are ready to make a real difference in young people’s lives by helping them access vital health and well-being services, we’d love to hear from you.

Do your skills include:

  • Knowledge of mental health as it relates to young people and discipline-specific intervention options for young people experiencing high prevalence mental health problems.
  • Demonstrated ability in evaluation of service outcomes and continuous improvement performance.
  • Experience working with young people in a health, youth or clinical setting.
  • Ability to engage young people actively and assertively from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the appropriate legislation, case management practice, and the ability to adhere to policy and procedures.

Are your credentials:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in human services, behavioural/social sciences, community services, psychology, social work, counselling, occupational therapy or other relevant health discipline which provides a sound understanding and knowledge of assessing and working with young people at risk, or;
  • Diploma or Certificate level related qualifications  in counselling, mental health, community services, along with demonstrated successful experience in an intake and assessment role within a multidisciplinary mental health setting or similar.
  • A current driver’s licence.
