Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation (BTAC) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate (RNTBC) for the Thalanyji People.

BTAC is seeking a Heritage Coordinator to assist through a period of growth in heritage work.

The Heritage Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and advising on cultural heritage surveys and scheduling operations on Thalanyji country, ensuring that field work is safely executed in accordance with schedules, and most importantly, respects Thalanyji Culture.

This position is based in Perth, with frequent travel to Onslow and surrounding areas.

Key Deliverables

  • Schedule work and liaise with industry partners, independent consultants, and service providers on a regular basis as required to ensure smooth and safe operations on Thalanyji country.
  • Manage Heritage agreements and monitor the implementation and compliance of Indigenous Land Use, heritage, and other agreements on a regular basis or as defined in the agreement.
  • Liaise with service providers, including advising on statutory obligations as required and meeting regularly.
  • Manage logistics for implementation and consultation meetings as required.
  • Maintain electronic and manual files, and keep records up to date, secure and accessible, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate key cultural and heritage projects.
  • Manage special projects as and when required and
  • Other environmental, heritage, or cultural matters as required.

Selection Criteria

  • A bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, project management or related discipline is required.
  • At least three (3) years’ field or relevant experience is required.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in the Native Title sector, or for a Registered Native Title Body, or Prescribed Body Corporate is required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the WA Aboriginal Heritage Act (as amended), Mining Act, Land Administration Act and related resources development legislation as it applies to the development and operation of mining and exploration projects in WA;
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (for example Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) and Arc GIS (or similar) is required.
  • A valid C-Class Manual Australian Driver’s Licence is required.
  • A recent, valid, and clear National Police Clearance.
  • Willingness to work in a regional location and undertake extended fieldwork in remote areas for extended periods during the field season (roughly March to November).
