The Opportunity

Are you an early-career marketing & communication professional with experience using content management systems? Would you like to join a values driven, not-for-profit organisation with a meaningful mission? Then this could be the role for you!

In this position, you will support internal communication activities and projects and collaborate with other members of the marketing and communication team to maintain and enhance key communication channels. This includes Burnet’s intranet, email and digital information screens, as well as the website and social media platforms.

You will also:

  • Coordinate, develop and edit written and visual content for a range of communication channels to ensure it is timely, accurate, engaging and aligns with Burnet’s brand style including tone of voice
  • Support the content lifecycle by publishing, reviewing and archiving written content using a range of content management systems with a particular focus on Burnet’s Intranet site and internal e-newsletters
  • Respond to enquiries and engage with audiences on social media platforms as appropriate to support Burnet’s employer brand and goal to be an aspirational workplace within our sector
  • Track and measure the effectiveness and impact of Burnet’s digital communication platforms and campaigns
  • Work with stakeholders to understand their challenges and help develop appropriate solutions that put the user (which may be a member of an internal or external audience) at the centre of communication
  • Seek input, feedback and contributions from stakeholders, and integrate feedback into content development as appropriate
  • Support the broader team with ad-hoc tasks

This is a full time, ongoing position with part time working from home options provided.

Let’s talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in professional communication, digital marketing or science and at least 2 years’ relevant professional experience
  • A high standard of written and verbal communication skills (including grammar, punctuation, and style) and strong attention to detail
  • Experience of working with stakeholders to understand their problems and help develop appropriate solutions that put the user at the centre
  • Desire to learn about and apply accessibility principles as they apply to digital content
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of Microsoft Office programs (particularly Word and PowerPoint)
  • Experience publishing online content using content management systems (CMS) such as Drupal, Umbraco or other open-source CMS
  • An interest in developing digital communication skills to keep up with new thinking in relevant areas, such as usability and ethical use of artificial intelligence

The following are preferable but not essential:

  • Experience using software to analyse intranet and/or website traffic and interpret data to prepare reports and make recommendations for improvements
  • Ability to grasp technical scientific concepts and communicate them effectively to a general audience
  • Experience with email automation platform such as Campaign Monitor, Mailchimp or Active Campaign
