The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is now available for a Senior Research Officer to join the Global Adolescent Health team at Burnet!

In this role you will support qualitative and mixed-methods research projects, with a focus on adolescent sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and responsive health systems in Asia and the Pacific.

As part of an experienced and multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for project implementation and coordination, training and supervision of research partners (including diverse teams in international settings), data analysis, and leading/contributing to high quality publications and reports. The ability to travel in the Asia and Pacific region will be an important requirement of this role.

Some of your duties will include:

• Leading and contributing to high quality research projects in adolescent health, including, developing qualitative and/or mixed-methods research protocols, data collection and analysis (qualitative essential, quantitative desirable), conducting scoping and systematic reviews.
• Leading and contributing to high quality scientific outputs including publications, technical reports, and other communication outputs.
• With support from senior staff, managing a portfolio of research projects, including associated ethics applications, compliance requirements and financial management.
• Developing and providing training and supervision for research partners / field researchers / research students.
• Building relationships and provide technical support to Burnet country teams (Myanmar and PNG).
• Contributing to and leading (with support) identification and development of internal and external funding proposals.

Work from home or join us in the office, it’s up to you! While our head office is based in Melbourne, we are open to fully remote working (based anywhere in Australia). You will also have flexibility to manage your own working hours. Current Australian working rights are required for all applicants.

Let’s talk about you:

The following criteria are essential requirements:

• Postgraduate qualification in health sciences, public health or relevant field (related to adolescent health highly desirable).
• 1-3 years post-PhD experience conducting qualitative and/or mixed-methods research projects, including study design / protocol development, data collection, data analysis.
• Experience conceptualising, conducting, and reporting on scoping and systematic reviews.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including experience providing training, supervision or support to students, staff members, and/or research partners.
• Excellent communication skills, including highly developed academic writing skills as demonstrated by high quality first-author publications and technical reports.
• Demonstrated capacity to work independently, with excellent time management, organisational and problem-solving skills.

The following are preferable but not essential:

• Experience conducting co-design and participatory research.
• Experience working in Asia and the Pacific and/or collaborating on research projects based in the region and providing technical consultancy services for UN agencies or international organisations.
