Burrun Dalai provides foster care to Aboriginal children & young people of the Macleay, Nambucca, Hastings, Manning, Armidale and Tamworth Regions. As an agency Burrun Dalai is going through a period of large growth. We are growing the number of families, young people and children we provide services to in our communities and also increasing the types of services we can offer.

Principle Duties include but not limited to:

  • Intervention and referral
  • Services to Aboriginal child/children, young people/persons, family, and significant others where appropriate
  • Assist in the development and implementation of case management plans, annual carer reviews, Foster Carer Action Plans, involving agreed goals
  • Monitor and report on outcomes
  • Maintain up to date client files and write reports as required
  • Submit monthly statistical data to Manager as requested
  • Provide support to current and potential Foster Carers
  • Advocate for child/children, young people/persons, and families within the service where applicable.
  • Participate in training of prospective foster carers and ongoing training of approved foster carers
  • Participate in On Call Work as directed by Manager
  • Participate in children/young people’s case reviews and Annual Case Plan.
  • Coordinate and participate in initial foster carer training and STACC Training.
  • Coordinate and participate in foster carer recruitment.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Aboriginality
  • Understanding of the Child and Young Persons Care and Protection Act (1988), with knowledge of out-of-home care legislation(s) and practice and a proven willingness to keep up to date.
  • Understanding of issues involving Out of Home Care for Aboriginal children and young people, families, and foster carers in the Office Location CSC Areas, and in particular the unique difficulties/issues that arise for Aboriginal foster carers.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or extensive demonstrated experience in Aboriginal Welfare and Child Protection Area.
  • Demonstrated report writing skills and well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in conflict and negotiation and the ability to resolve complex and critical issues.
  • Well-developed computer skills.
  • Experience in Community Development with reference to recruitment of Aboriginal Foster Carers.
  • Demonstrated experience in a team approach to service delivery.
  • Proven ability to liaise with relevant government and non-government professionals, community groups, services, and agencies in the provision of services.
  • Demonstrated competence in maintaining accurate, appropriate, and up to date files, data, and written assessment reports.
  • Ability to participate in On Call Services as required.
  • Willingness to work across teams in Out of Home Care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Opportunity, Ethical practices, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Current NSW Driver’s License.

Desirable:

  • Certificate (IV) Training and Development or willingness to obtain.
  • Previous experience working in an Aboriginal Corporation.
  • Understanding of the role of the Office of Children’s Guardian and Out of Home Care Standards.
