Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) are the lead specialists in Aboriginal specific family violence services across the Eastern Metropolitan Region. The organisation has developed an excellent record of providing high quality family violence and trauma informed intensive case management, integrated family service responses and evidence based therapeutic programs to individuals and groups for a whole family approach.
Position Summary
The role of the Men’s Family Violence Services Team Leader is to develop and guide the Men’s Family Violence Services team to deliver quality case management responses to Aboriginal men and their families experiencing family violence. They will operate under limited direction and will have scope to influence the operational activities of the work area.
They will hold a small case load of no more than 6 cases and will have extensive skills in case management and knowledge and experience in the family violence sector. The Team Leader will communicate this knowledge to the team through supervision and coaching, in order to deliver quality services and innovative case management responses to the clients we service. They have an understanding of the data collection requirements and are able to use this data to write reports and understand trends within the sector.
The Team Leader is a key member of the leadership team and as a result provides modelling for a positive and inclusive organisational culture. They are a strong advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander centred service delivery, men’s behaviour change programs and possess a clear understanding of the impacts of multigenerational trauma.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Practice Leadership
- Implement and conduct supervision for the Men’s Case Management Team.
- Support the teams with intake and assessment and offer expertise in complex case consultations.
- Model leadership in a range of areas including the knowledge of legislation, policy and procedure, the application of theory and modalities to achieve best outcomes for children and families.
- Provide practice and organisational leadership at a high level and model appropriate and inclusive organisational culture.
Case Planning Review and Case Management
- Provide case management to a small case load of no more than 6 cases.
- Coordinate and lead the planning, review and management of casework in the Men’s FV Services team.
- Support the Men’s FV Services team to holistically assess and case manage Aboriginal men and their families who have been affected by family violence.
Manage Risks
- Provide an escalation point for high-risk cases and assist in the development and implementation of risk management plans for these cases
Culturally informed child focused practice
- Contribute to culturally informed practice.
- Contribute to a positive and culturally safe workplace
Training and Professional Development/Capability Development
- Provide leadership and coaching to the team in order to ensure that they deliver consistent and quality services to all clients.
- Provide advocacy and advice with regard to the training and development needs of the team, guiding the development of training opportunities and materials and assist staff to access professional development options.
- Undertake and participate in professional development opportunities as identified as part of the Professional Development Review and activity work plan processes.
Engagement of Key Stakeholders
- Engage with key stakeholders directly related to the case management needs of the clients and create opportunities for networking for the Men’s FV Services team.
Program Support
- Evaluate the Men’s FV Services program continuously and the staff practice in order to ensure quality practice and identification of barriers to quality client services.
Administration
- Assist staff to understand and implement data input activities in their roles as case workers.
- Provide progress and client status reports to the Men’s FV Services Manager.
- Assist the Men’s FV Services team to ensure that all client records are in accordance with BWAHS quality and audit requirements.
Policies Procedures and Systems
- Comply with all organisation policies and procedures.
- Proactively communicate, identify, report, assess WHS related risks and hazards.
Key performance indicators
- Provide leadership and modelling around an inclusive and positive organisational culture.
- Lead and advocate case planning for Aboriginal women and their families.
- Provide supervision, coaching and reflective practice experiences for the Men’s FV Services team.
- Follow compliance and data collection requiremetns for the team and provide data reports.
- Provide a strong advocacy and knowledge base for service delivery that is embeded in Aboriginal knowledge and understandings.
The employee will be expected to perform other duties outside those set in the position description as directed from time to time which are within the employee’s skill, qualification, experience and competence level to meet the organisation’s operational needs.
The Position Description may be amended from time to time at the organisation’s discretion. Where there is inconsistency between KPI’s in this Position Description and those within the Organisation Objectives, the Organisation Objectives will stand.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Sciences, Social Welfare Psychology or a relevant or related discipline, or willingness to work towards this.
- Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.
- An understanding of family violence case management including risk and needs assessments, Men’s and Children’s interventions and trauma informed practice.
- Demonstrated practical experience in working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Demonstrated experience working with men and children presenting with complex needs and behaviours and experience with high-risk clients.
- Experience in developing and maintaining family violence and referral services networks.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders from all backgrounds and levels, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of relevant Acts and Standards, ethical principles and legislation governing professional practice.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgement and decision-making ability, the ability to work autonomously and flexibly in a changing environment
- An understanding of child safe standards and the Children, Youth and Families Act 1995 (Vic), and their application in practice.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
It is a condition of employment that BWAHS be provided with the following:
- Current Victorian Driver’s License
- Current Working with Children’s Check
- Undertake National Police Check
