Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) has worked with young people (aged 12 to 25 years) and young families experiencing or at risk of homelessness since 1977.

This full-time role of Intake and Brief Intervention Worker supports our mission by providing young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with solution focused crisis and early interventions and thorough assessment and referrals.

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you:

  • Hold A Certificate III or above in Youth Work, Community Services or similar OR demonstrated experience in a related field.
  • Have experience working with vulnerable young people, in a front-line service delivery setting (desirable), and working collaboratively with other agencies
  • Have the ability to provide intake, assessment, early intervention and planned support including identifying housing goals, tenancy skills and other supports for vulnerable young people
  • Have demonstrated ability to undertake thorough assessments of a young person’s situation and support needs, including risk assessments and safety planning
  • Have experience facilitating referrals and supporting young people to access housing, legal, physical and mental health support, education and employment, and engage with their community
  • Have strong communication skills, including interpersonal skills and writing skills and the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of young people

Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • National Police Check clearance.
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; Hepatitis B and COVID-19.
