Since 1977, Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) has worked to create new futures for vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness aged 12-25 years and their children.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Marketing and Communications Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies that promote our brand and services throughout the industry. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, be creative, and have a strong understanding of marketing and communication principles.

Marketing and Communications Officer

This position is responsible for the delivery of BYS marketing and communication strategies and activities.

Employment Type & Hours:

  • Full or part-time | 60-76 hours per fortnight (with the opportunity to work flexibly)
  • Award Conditions: Level 4 - Social, Community, Home Care & Disabilities Services [SCHADS] Award 2010 + Salary Packaging

Selection Criteria:

In addition to submitting a resume or CV, applicants must address the selection criteria [below] in their cover letter to be considered for shortlisting.

  1. Understanding of and commitment to BYS vision, objectives, and practice framework.
  2. 3+ years’ experience in a similar MarComms role supporting with content development, digital marketing, and communications.
  3. Demonstrated ability in copy writing for electronic and print media – please include example of your writing along with your cover letter.
  4. Demonstrated experience supporting digital marketing campaigns and social media communications including sourcing, generating, and publishing content using a range of software (such as Wordpress, Hootsuite, Canva, Creative Cloud).
  5. Basic graphic design skills and experience with the ability to maintain the organisation’s brand and produce high quality publications in partnership with design agencies and other staff.
  6. Excellent time management and organisational skills with proven ability to implement marketing and communication plans.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Education, Qualifications, Requirements [Mandatory]:

  • A tertiary qualification in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Media or other related field
  • Current Queensland driver’s license
  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card] / willingness to obtain a Blue Card prior to commencement
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases prior to commencement: Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; and COVID-19
  • Three relevant references

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar marketing and/or communications role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively contribute to the Strategic Marketing and Communications Plan to ensure BYS is successfully and appropriately promoted, and support the execution of annual fundraising and event activities.
  • Be a guardian of the BYS brand, maintaining brand integrity and consistency according to the BYS Style Guide, as well as improving BYS brand visibility and recognition
  • Develop marketing materials such as flyers, social tiles, posters, presentations, brochures, annual report, merchandise, banners, etc. in line with established visual identity
  • Support the development of compelling, topical content for use in communication materials such as press releases, campaigns and appeals, and for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram)
  • Maintain and update the BYS website (Wordpress)
  • Support email marketing campaigns including the quarterly external and internal e-newsletters
  • Assist in promoting fundraising campaigns and activities including through traditional and digital media channels
  • Work closely with BYS management to ensure they are appropriately resourced, understand key communication priorities, policies, practices and messaging
  • Support BYS events and conference participation in collaboration with the Head of Marketing and Communications and Head of Fundraising e.g. collateral, guest briefings, taking points, content creation

Service Operation and Development

  • Participate in staff meetings and organisational planning to contribute to the monitoring and development of BYS programs and services
  • Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Undertake monitoring and evaluation to maintain and improve communication and marketing activities

People, Culture, Safety:

  • Model and drive a culture of respect, optimism, accountability, and resilience in line with the organisation’s values
  • Model ethical behaviours in line with the BYS Code of Conduct and consistently apply ethical standards to self and others
  • Attend regular supervision with the Corporate Service Director to monitor performance
  • Attend training and professional development opportunities to address learning needs
  • Provide support to colleagues and contribute to a positive work culture
  • Ensure a healthy and safe workplace for all by adhering to BYS Work Health and Safety Policy, Procedures and Practices
  • Provide support to colleagues including new staff and students
  • Contribute to a positive team culture aligned with the organisation’s vision, philosophy, policies and procedures
  • Actively participate to deliver the BYS Reconciliation Action Plan [RAP] initiatives and measurable actions that support First Nations equality across our organisation and services

Administration:

  • Submit leave requests accurately and on time on a fortnightly basis, in accordance with relevant legislation and organisational policy and procedures
  • Undertake administrative tasks relating to the role and/or the team
  • Prepare reports as required
