We support young people and their children who are at risk and experiencing homelessness, to secure and maintain housing, address physical and mental health challenges, establish successful relationships and support networks, and access pathways to education and employment.

This full-time role of Youth Housing Specialist Senior Practitioner supports our mission by providing crisis, brief intervention and ongoing planned support to complex young people including BYS tenants, enabling young people to successfully transition into independent living

You’ll be a great candidate for this role if you:

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Sciences or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field.
  • Have experience working holistically with vulnerable young people, using brief solution focused crisis interventions and ongoing planned support, building trusting relationships with marginalised young people.
  • Have the ability to conduct complex assessments of a young person’s situation and support needs, including suicide risk assessments
  • Have an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a community housing provider in accordance with the National Regulatory System of Community Housing (NRSCH).
  • Have the ability to mentor, support and guide; provide debriefing [including incident debriefing] to colleagues, as required, and model the BYS core values of Respect, Optimism, Accountability and Resilience

Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You’ll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • National Police Check clearance.
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases - Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella [Chicken Pox]; Pertussis [Whooping Cough]; Hepatitis B and COVID-19.
