Programs Manager - Remote / Work From Home

Climate for Change

This is a 4-day per week role, working from home (anywhere in Australia), currently funded for 12 months.

ABOUT Climate for Change

Climate for Change’s purpose is to empower Australians to participate in democratic dialogue and advocate for effective climate action.

Although the majority of Australians are concerned about climate change and want the government to take significant action, many people feel alone in their concerns, disconnected from communities taking action, and unable to influence systemic change.

That’s why we’re building the groundswell of support and action that will compel our leaders to take the climate action we need.

Personal and social change happens when we talk to people we know and trust. When we begin to recognise climate change as a key aspect of our personal and shared identities, our perspectives and priorities shift, and this can enable effective climate action.

We equip people with tools, resources, and a sense of agency, so they are motivated to engage with their networks in meaningful conversations, and build climate action communities.

Through deep peer-to-peer engagement, community building and climate and democracy education, Climate for Change nurtures a network of informed and active citizens to empower climate action.

ABOUT Climate conversations

Climate Conversations is one of our two major programs. It has adapted the ‘Tupperware party’ model of small gatherings in people’s homes, each of which generates at least one more. This is a unique model within the climate movement that allows both deep engagement and ongoing expansion.

Climate Conversations began in 2016 with a small group of volunteer facilitators. Since then we have supported hundreds of volunteers to facilitate almost 700 Conversations reaching over 6000 people. We have an active team of volunteer facilitators and mentors operating in Melbourne, elsewhere in Victoria, NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

ABOUT MP Engagement groups

Our second major program - the Member of Parliament Engagement Groups (MPEGs) started in 2018. We provide resources and leadership to help Australians engage with their elected representatives to ensure they are aware of our concerns. Concise and well-researched briefs on most major climate-related issues have been developed and are constantly reviewed and updated. These resources help members to write to or speak to MPs. Across most states of Australia, local groups operate regularly sending letters and arranging meetings with politicians.

ABOUT the role

We are looking for someone passionate about and committed to Climate for Change’s mission and work.

In this role you will:

  • Support our existing volunteers to facilitate Climate Conversations & MPEGs;

Subject to that funding, we are looking for someone who can oversee the execution and delivery, enabling the programs to reach their full potential, over that time.
