  • Position Title: Director
  • Classification: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHADS) L7: $58.23/hr - $60.66/hr
  • Conditions: Permanent part time, 33 hours per week. This includes flexible working hours as required covering some evenings and weekends.
  • Reports to: CAFNEC Management Committee
  • Location: Office in Cairns with flexible working arrangements available. Travel around Far North Queensland and elsewhere in the State is required.

About the role

The Director is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of CAFNEC. They lead the organisation to advance CAFNEC’s mission, develop and implement strategic and annual plans, ensure effective program delivery, manage the CAFNEC staff team and foster a positive organisational culture. The Director is also CAFNEC’s primary representative, advocating for environmental conservation, engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders and supporting members and member groups to achieve shared goals.

About CAFNEC

The Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) is a not-for-profit incorporated association that acts as conservation council for the region from Cardwell North to Torres Strait and from the east coast to the Gulf of Carpentaria. CAFNEC works to protect the environment by enhancing the capacity of local groups and community members to act for conservation, strengthening networks within FNQ, facilitating region-wide cooperation to identify and coordinate action on issues of regional significance and when necessary, engaging in campaigns that are strategically important for the region.

Selection Criteria

  • Leadership: You have proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within the non-profit or environmental sector and are a visionary and strategic thinker.
  • Staff Management: You have demonstrated experience effectively managing and supporting teams, and have a collaborative and inclusive leadership style informed by emotional intelligence.
  • Campaign Leadership: You have a strong understanding of environmental issues relevant to Cairns and Far North Queensland and are passionate about CAFNEC’s mission.
  • Traditional Owner Relationships: You have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with a deep respect for their cultural knowledge and practices and a working knowledge of community engagement best practices
  • Philanthropy: You have experience developing and maintaining philanthropic relationships and associated funding.
  • Organisational management: You have experience managing an organisation including board relationships, planning, financial management, communications and partnerships, preferably in the not for profit sector.
  • Required: You have a current Class C Driver Licence and permit to work in Australia.
