Who we’re looking for

Cancer Council ACT is seeking a new team member with a passion for community fundraising, marketing/communication know-how, and a commitment to providing a positive experience for the people who make our organisation great: our clients, volunteers, fundraisers and donors.  This position is to cover a 9-month parental leave period starting in early January 2025.

In this role, you will provide support to the Fundraising and Marketing Team in delivering Cancer Council’s iconic fundraising campaigns (such as Relay for Life, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Daffodil Day and The Longest Day) and other community fundraising initiatives in the ACT.

Reporting to the Fundraising and Marketing Manager, the Fundraising and Marketing Assistant will:

  • Coordinate delivery of the Do It For Cancer fundraising campaign in the ACT.
  • Provide end-to-end support to the Senior Campaigns Coordinator in the delivery of national fundraising campaigns in the ACT.
  • Work with the Senior Campaigns Coordinator to create and execute effective promotional and communication material for fundraising campaigns (including social media content, emails, communication toolkits, case studies, pre campaign planning and post campaign reporting).
  • Engage and collaborate with the wider Cancer Council Federation through relevant committee representation.
  • Assist in the coordination of volunteering for all major campaigns.
  • Assist the Fundraising and Marketing Manager with writing and executing annual fundraising appeals.
  • Assist with building and maintaining high standards of donor and other stakeholder relations.
  • Provide administrative support including processing and receipting donations, and ensuring accurate and appropriate record keeping utilising our CRM (Salesforce).
  • Undertake other duties as required, always maintaining a flexible approach.
  • About you

We are looking for someone who shares our values, with an interest in the work that we do. We will also highly value applicants who have:

  • Experience working in a fundraising or marketing environment.
  • Demonstrated high level customer service with effective communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to make outbound calls to donors, volunteers, and other key stakeholders is essential.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and attention to detail, with an ability to prioritise own workload and to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency using the MS Office suite, SharePoint and Canva, as well as social media platforms including Hootsuite, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Experience with online CRM platforms (such as Salesforce) and fundraising applications (such as Funraisin) is highly regarded.
  • Ability to work flexibly where required, including some out-of-hours work.
  • A shared desire to help our organisation respectfully engage with the LGBTIQ+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and people with disability in Canberra.
