The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Legal Policy Advisor to work within the Cancer Prevention and Research division.

Reporting to the Make Smoking History Manager you will be directly responsible for research and advice on legal, regulatory and policy issues relevant to cancer prevention.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Based in Subiaco, this position is part-time (0.5 FTE), fixed-term until 30 June 2025, with a possibility of extension.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Proposing and advocating for legal and regulatory reforms to promote cancer prevention
  • Preparing submissions, briefings, policy position statements and complaints
  • Liaising with both government and non-government stakeholders about cancer prevention issues
  • Preparing occasional briefs for legal advice in relation to the services and programs of CCWA

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree (a current practising certificate is desirable but not essential)
  • 3 years’ experience in legal practice
  • Experience in or knowledge of policy development or advocacy
  • Knowledge of cancer control issues will be highly regarded
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proven organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
  • Positive approach to the workplace
