Since our establishment in 1936, Cancer Council Victoria has developed an international reputation for our innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we play a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people.

The Strategy and Support Division works directly with people, clinicians, researchers and policymakers. Our purpose is to reduce inequities and improve outcomes for all people affected by cancer, now and into the future. Our division comprises of Cancer Information and Support Services, Research Governance and Business Operations, Cancer Strategy and the McCabe Centre for Law & Cancer.

The Policy Team is part of the Cancer Strategy Unit in this Division. The purpose of the Policy Team is to advocate for policy and system reform that will improve equity in cancer outcomes.

About your opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Policy Lead, reporting to the Policy Manager.

The Policy lead will:

  • Conduct comprehensive policy research and analysis to develop recommendations on issues relating to cancer treatment and supportive care.
  • Prepare high-quality written materials, including submissions, briefs and letters for a range of target audiences.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative internal and external relationships, including with clinicians and peak bodies working with people affected by cancer.

The role requires a self-motivated individual with commitment to supporting policy reform, strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role involving policy research and analysis and advocating to influence policy reform, preferably in the health setting.
  • A relevant tertiary degree and work experience in a health or social policy setting.
  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills, with demonstrated experience writing research reports, policy analysis, briefs and submissions.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, research, policy and evaluation skills, with demonstrated ability to translate research and data to influence evidence-based policy change.

  • A base salary of $81,520 to $91,656 p.a. (dependent on experience, pro rata for part time) plus 11% superannuation
