Within the Behavioural Science Division, the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer (CBRC) leads applied behavioural research in tobacco control, skin cancer prevention, diet and healthy weight, alcohol harm prevention and cancer screening. CBRC also leads the evaluation of priority cancer prevention and screening programs and services housed within Cancer Council Victoria, including high profile public communication programs such as Quit,SunSmart, LiveLighter and Food For Health Alliance. Our research and programs contribute to Cancer Council Victoria’s designation as a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Ultraviolet Radiation.

About your opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Officer to join CBRC. Reporting to the SunSmart Research and Evaluation Manager, and working closely with the Senior Research Fellow (Evaluation), you will collaborate closely with the CBRC team and our Prevention Division to:

  • Implement research and evaluation projects for CBRC on programs (including SunSmart, Quit, LiveLighter and Food For Health Alliance)
  • Design, undertake, interpret and provide advice on multivariate statistical analyses; drawing conclusions and making recommendations to inform programs
  • Build, develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Tertiary degree in psychology, social sciences, public health or related discipline
  • Substantial experience in a research or evaluation environment
  • Experience managing and coordinating research or evaluation studies, including the demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively to achieve tasks in agreed timeframes
  • Understanding of major survey and research design methods and issues in behavioural research or evaluation
  • Extensive experience in conducting multivariate statistical analysis using Stata or SPSS and the ability to interpret outputs
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write reports and contribute to peer-reviewed manuscripts utilising a strong attention to detail and accuracy
