ABOUT CANDLEBARK COMMUNITY NURSERY INCORPORATED

Want hands-on work that helps the environment?

Candlebark Community Nursery (Inc) is a self-supporting, not-for-profit organisation established in 1994, dedicated to helping local people improve the natural environment. We grow local native (indigenous) plants from seed or cuttings for revegetation projects and local gardens. Our retail area is open to the public for plant sales.

We promote community connection and provide educational and practical opportunities for everyone involved. We celebrate diversity and value everyone’s skills and potential. We are a warm and welcoming group which has been in existence for 30 years. After the difficulties of the Covid lockdowns, we are planning for our organisation’s future with enthusiasm.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

We rely on volunteers to ensure our plant stock levels meet the requirements of local revegetation projects (especially council-led) and our local retail customers.

Our activities are many and varied! Volunteers can:

  • collect seed and cuttings from local reserves (in summer)
  • propagate plants via seed or cuttings
  • help customers in the retail area
  • transfer seedlings into tubes
  • help maintain the nursery's gardens and facilities
  • assist with our website (WordPress) and publicity
  • help with our presence at festivals
  • and many more activities!

No experience is required, just a willingness to learn.
