We are now seeking a Parent and Carer Counsellor to join our Cancer Hub team where you will be responsible for delivering child-focused parent support to families experiencing a cancer diagnosis.

About our role

The Camp Quality Parent and Carer Counsellor (PCC) is a social worker, psychologist or counsellor who specialises in the delivery of digital therapeutic, evidence-based interventions (via telephone, video and webchat) for parents/carers of children aged 0-12, with a cancer experience. They also may occasionally provide support services to parents/carers of children aged 12-25, and young people aged 12-25. The PCC, alongside our broader Hub team, also participates in ensuring our online communities are safe, inclusive spaces that facilitate peer connection and access to information and support. The Parent and Carer Counsellor works set rostered shifts (Monday to Thursday, 9am-5pm) to cover the set opening hours of our ad-hoc chat and booked appointment service.

  • Deliver Online Counselling: Provide high quality, evidence-based digital counselling support primarily to parents/carers/kin who have children aged 0-12, and occasionally young people aged 12-25 years.
  • Team Collaboration and Program Development: Collaborate and consult with peers/across Cancer Hub/Canteen/Alliance; sharing practice through teaching and learning opportunities; contributing to team projects and overall development of the service.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work collaboratively with all services under Cancer Hub as well as Alliance Partners, and other external stakeholders to ensure young people and families receive access to the supports that best meet their needs.
  • Online Community Development: Support the growth and development of online community Canteen Connect, and other Cancer Hub Resources. This includes participation in moderation, care coordination, generation of content, and supporting consumer engagement.
  • Group Programs: Facilitate evidence-based, digital group interventions to parents/carers that include psychoeducation, therapeutic content, expression and peer support.

There is a set roster for this position (0.8FTE), which is:

  • Monday to Thursday, 9am-5pm AEST or AEDT

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, counselling or social work that provide eligibility for registration per below (Bachelor level and above).
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain accreditation, membership or licensing from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA), the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), The Australian Counselling Association (ACA), The Psychotherapy and Counselling federation of Australia (PACFA), The Australian Psychology Society (APS) or equivalent national registering body.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the clinical setting and/or counselling service using a number of evidence-based interventions (eg SFT, MI, ACT, Narrative). Telehealth counselling experience preferred.
  • Experience working with families including demonstrated knowledge of parenting, child development, family inclusive interventions, communication and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grief, loss and bereavement, end of life planning and the impact of chronic illness on children and families.
  • Current Working with Children Check and willingness to undergo National Criminal History Police Clearance.
