Canteen is dedicated to supporting young people and their families affected by cancer. Founded by young cancer patients, our mission is to provide essential programs, services, and resources that positively impact the lives of 12-25 year-olds facing their own diagnosis, dealing with a close family member's cancer, or grieving the loss of a loved one. Canteen’s success is built on the capability and motivation of its people. We are now seeking a Psychosocial Clinician to join our team where you will coordinate and deliver counselling and other psychosocial support services for young people and parents affected by cancer. This is a high-impact role for a qualified clinician with a natural ability to connect and support.

  • Base Salary + Superannuation + Not-For-Profit Salary Packaging (up to $15,900 of your salary tax-free).

About our role

  • Conduct individualised psychosocial assessments and surveys that help identify needs and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with young people to establish individual support plans to achieve their own self-directed goals.
  • Provide ongoing individual support to young people, including evidence-based counselling interventions, psychoeducation, care coordination and case management through a mix of Telehealth, face-to-face services and outreach.
  • Respond to and support the psychosocial needs of young people, including processing themes such as grief, loss, and bereavement.  
  • Assist with case management and referrals to suitable resources within the local networks and liaising with family when appropriate.
  • Provide short-term interventions to parents with a cancer experience, focused on parenting through cancer.
  • Liaise with hospital social work teams, oncology staff, outpatient clinics, schools and the wider community to establish and build effective cancer, medical and psychosocial networks.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or other Allied Health related fields.
  • Hold or be eligible to hold accreditation, membership or licensing from AHPRA, AASW, PACFA, ACA or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering counselling or therapeutic intervention to young people.
  • Experience conducting assessments, coordinating care, case planning, group work, and risk management.
  • Outstanding communication skills and a natural ability to connect with young people and families.  
  • Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem solving, negotiation and crisis management. 
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external agencies, and across shared care models. 
  • Driver’s license and First Aid Certificate is essential.

*Due to the nature of Canteen’s work, you will be required to (very) occasionally work weekends and evenings. Advance notice will be given when this is the case, and Canteen does have a Time off in Lieu policy for taking leave as agreed with the supervising manager.
