The Opportunity

Your chance to work with CARE Australia (part of CARE International). We are an international aid organisation working to defeat global poverty by supporting women to create lasting change in their communities around the world.

We are seeking a Head of Business Development with strong sector knowledge and experience to join our team.

In this role you will report to the Director of International Programs and Operations. Leading a team, you will demonstrate both extensive strategic and operational leadership you will be responsible for undertaking strategic planning to secure institutional funding and mobilising resources that contribute to CARE Australia’s strategic priorities. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to develop and execute bid strategies and coach team members on the preparation of funding proposals and tenders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the development of strategy that supports the development of a sustainable program
  • Collaborating with CARE International and CARE Australia colleagues to strengthen our shared approach to resource mobilisation
  • Developing resource mobilisation strategies to undertake positioning to identify new institutional funding streams
  • Coordinating, drafting and reviewing technical proposals, including multi-country and CA managed initiatives
  • Supporting the alignment of institutional funding, private sector funding and new business initiatives with CA
  • Strengthening and refining program management procedures and related resource mobilisation procedures, particularly from the identification of an opportunity through to project inception
  • Ensuring compliance with CARE Australia procedures for narrative and financial concept/proposal project design submissions and contractual requirements
  • Contributing to the leadership and the management of daily operations within the International Programs & Operations department

Ideally you will have:

  • Extensive experience in fundraising, proposal/tender preparation and/or resource mobilisation for international development agencies
  • A strong understanding and knowledge of institutional donor agency cultures and ways of working, especially DFAT, Managing Contractors and the UN system
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to develop a cohesive and high performing team
  • Experience in training and/or developing the capacity and skills of non-specialists
  • Strong project management skills to lead and support the submission of tenders and funding proposals
  • Strong knowledge of project finance and budgeting for international humanitarian and development projects
  • Experience in training and capacity building in methods, systems, and approaches to resource mobilisation and institutional fundraising
  • An understanding of the importance of empowering women and girls and a commitment to the protection of children and the prevention of sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse
  • Familiarity or experience working within the corporate/private sector to support humanitarian and/or development projects and programs will be highly regarded

The ability to undertake both domestic and overseas travel from time to time is a requirement for this role.
