The Carer Gateway Support Officer role is a full-time, fixed term contract until 30 June 2026, which is subject to ongoing funding. The position attracts a salary package between $81,900 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% leave loading) and two wellness days per annum.

The Position:

The Carer Gateway Support Officer provides carer focused services and phone-based consults with carers to identify their goals and ensure an appropriate support plan is prepared, implemented, and evaluated.

The role is multi-faceted, process driven and team orientated, requiring the ability to be adaptive to change and flexible in how work is undertaken. It involves working in a strengths based, trauma informed manner through the process of intake, planning and identifying person centred goals and supports for carers. The coordination and administration of financial and business functions is required to support the referral and delivery of services to carers, including a combination of administration, budgeting, contractor engagement and some scheduling duties.

The role also liaises with a wide range of partner organisations and internal stakeholders.

Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure.

Typical stressors associated with this role may include exposure to traumatic narratives, compassion fatigue, and handling callers who are experiencing frustration or burnout. Therefore, mental resilience, de-escalation skills and strong self-care strategies are vital to this role.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the intake, planning, and support function of carers in compliance with Department of Social Services guidelines and as required within the Carer Gateway team.
  • Maintain and develop comprehensive knowledge and strong understanding of funded and non-funded service providers, services options, and support agencies.
  • Ensure all scheduled activities are undertaken in accordance with responsibilities and accountabilities within the allocated time frames.

Our successful candidate will have:

  • A relevant qualification in Community / Health Services, Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work (Minimum Cert IV).
  • Demonstrated experience with assessments, coordination of services and referral processes.
  • Knowledge and experience in trauma informed and strengths-based practice.
  • Ability to multitask, managing several priorities and actions.
  • Willingness to work flexibly across different functions when required, including active participation in change management.
  • Proven competence with person centred practice supporting individuals to increase independence, participation, and wellbeing.
  • Experience engaging with diverse individuals and communities, including Aboriginal, CaLD, LGBTIQA+ and people with disability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal, including clear and professional etiquette through the use of telephone systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in administration and business processes, including fast and accurate data entry, and high level computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook) and customised client databases.
  • Proven ability to problem solve and utilise de-escalation skills.
  • National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
