The Policy Coordinator role with Carers WA is a full-time, fixed-term contract until 30 June 2026. The position attracts a salary of $84,000 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (plus17.5% leave loading) and two wellness days per annum.

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

Position Description

The Policy Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the development, authorisation, distribution and review of organisational-wide internal policies and procedures in consultation with internal stakeholders. This also includes assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of policies to ensure regulatory compliance is attained. This role reports to the Central Services Manager and works closely with the Business Continuity and Governance Consultant.

Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Policy Development and Review: Assist in the development of new and review of existing policies (as scheduled) as per the CAWA Policy Development and Review Process. This includes drafting, revising, and updating policy documents as necessary.
  • Policy Coordination: Coordinate policy-related activities across the organisation. This includes ensuring clear communication, consistency of approach, and efficient workflow.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analysis to support policy development and decision-making process.
  • Internal Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal stakeholders (eg: subject matter experts, leadership team and Executive team) and facilitate meetings, consultations, or collaborations to gather input or feedback on policies.
  • Policy Implementation: Assist in the implementation of policies, which can include developing implementation plans, monitoring progress, and evaluating the impacts of policies.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on policy-related activities, outcomes, or issues for internal use.
  • Compliance: Ensure policies and procedures align with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Governance: Ensure all policy documentation is accurately maintained in the policy register supporting transparency, accuracy and accountability.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in a policy, project or senior administrative role.
  • Clear and articulate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work across teams to build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Superior organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail with the ability to prioritise and pro-actively balance competing tasks and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work either independently or as a member of a team and exercise initiative and agility in the workplace.
  • Ability to format and produce professionally stylised documentation in compliance with organisational guidelines.
  • Possession of smart mobile phone for systems access.
  • National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
