The Young Carer Education Engagement Officer (YCEEO) role is a full-time fixed-term position until 30th June 2026, which is subject to ongoing funding. The position attracts a salary package of $89,000 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% leave loading) and two wellness days per annum.

About the role:

The role is responsible for increasing engagement opportunities within education facilities (schools, TAFE and universities), community service providers, associated network groups, and local government, to increase awareness and supports for young carers in the community.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Deliver a carer and youth centred, trauma informed service working within the National Principles of Child Safe Organisations.
  • Collate and present information to a variety of stakeholders including attending various educational outlets.
  • Expansion of the already established Young Carer Peer Support Groups project throughout Perth Metro to include selected regional areas.
  • Organise and co-ordinate a selection of school holiday young carer and / or family activities providing inclusive fun respite options.

This role will have a division of responsibility to cover both Perth Metro and a selection of pre-identified regional areas that have already established youth and community supports, to help grow and expand the program. Knowledge of youth based regional education, health and community engagement skills will help to pioneer the work of the Young Carer team outside of Perth metro. Regional travel to these areas will be required.

Previous experience of working in an outcomes focused and awareness raising role involving young people engaged in state based schools or youth based community organisations is strongly recommended.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualification in health promotion or education engagement is preferred (community development with a specific focus on youth and family work will be considered) AND a minimum of 18 months professionally paid experience in a related field.
  2. Previous experience of working in an outcomes focused and awareness raising role involving young people engaged in state based schools or selection of youth based community organisations.
  3. Understanding and empathy of carers, health, mental health, ageing and disability issues including with Aboriginal, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) and LGBTIQA+ individuals and communities.
  4. Excellent communication and relationship building skills and ability to engage with both adults (school staff / parents), students and volunteers.
  5. Demonstrated experience in creating opportunities to engage with newly identified stakeholders and maintain positive working relationships focused on young carer objectives thereafter.
  6. Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating workshops, presenting, public speaking and attending education, community youth and health related expo’s.
  7. Project based skills and experience including project planning, scheduling, time management, KPI management, report writing and managing own budgets criteria.
  8. Well-developed communication skills both written and verbal within various communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom, MS Teams, face to face).
  9. High level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases.
  10. Flexibility to travel within Perth Metro and to travel regionally as and when required (e.g., to deliver various project requirements including workshops and events), and perform occasional evening and weekend work (e.g., events).
  11. Current C class drivers licence.
  12. Current WA Working With Children’s Check or ability to obtain.
  13. National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
