About the role

At Catholic Care we are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner to join our well-established team in Tuggerah on an ongoing, casual basis.

The main objective of the role is to support couples undergoing relationship separation, and provide a range of high quality, child focused interventions to families. As part of this role, you will support separating and separated families to reach agreements, and to resolve their disputes related to family law issues, including parenting and property.

The program provides the early resolution of parenting disputes, ensuring the safety of parties where violence is disclosed, and that any agreements that are reached are made in the best interests of the children involved. As part of your role, you will work with a team that prioritises support and collaboration. You will also provide feedback to the team ensuring that the program operates within the most up to date laws and guidelines.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide mediation services utilising a variety of mediation models depending on the needs of clients.
  • Effectively resolve complex issues with clients in high conflict by a safe utilization of effective strategies and practice.
  • Participate in debriefs, supervision and team meetings/community of practice meetings.
  • Timely entry of data and adherence to client management system requirements.
  • Maintain and promote quality service by enforcing quality client service standards, analysing and resolving minor complaints and recommended program or system improvement.
  • Applying knowledge of Family Law, child related issues, parenting arrangements, financial and property issues.

To be successful in this role, you will be required to have:

  • Accreditation with the Attorney General’s Department as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, social work, psychology or another relevant area.
  • Demonstrated experience in family dispute resolution including undertaking client assessments and joint and shuttle mediations.
  • An understanding of the process of child inclusive mediation practice and a demonstrated ability to work in a child focussed approach.
  • Strong understanding of relationship dynamics, domestic and family violence, child safety, trauma informed practice, diversity awareness and mental health and wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of family law legislation and an understanding of child protection issues
  • Accreditation under the National Mediation Accreditation System (NMAS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Experience in group work facilitation is strongly desired.
