Foundation & Friends is a not-for-profit membership-based organisation, devoted to supporting, protecting, and enhancing the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Domain, the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan, and the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah.

The team are dedicated to motivating people, communities, institutions, and industries informed and inspired by the Botanic Gardens, public spaces and the Australian Institute of Botanical Science; with a view to drive recognition of the importance of plants and support their conservation.

ROLE

As Philanthropy Lead, your role is to foster and build major donor and bequest support base to support the growth, sustainability and impact of the Botanic Gardens of Sydney (BGS).

Working with Head of Philanthropy and CEO, you will build relationships with existing donors to connect to key funding projects within the Botanic Gardens. The focus of the role will include acquisition of new major donors and bequestors along with the development of retention strategies, impact reporting, and donor journey mapping.

The role will suit someone with demonstrated experience in major donor acquisition and stewardship and/or bequests relationship management looking to further develop their skills, you get to work across multiple revenue streams and join an organisation at an exciting time of growth and investment, while knowing you work has a positive impact on our environment and community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute Major Donor Acquisition and Stewardship Strategy to attract acquire new supporters.
  • Implement stewardship strategy to strengthen relationships with existing major donors.
  • Design and execute initiatives to enhance major donor satisfaction, loyalty and impact reporting.
  • Manage and nurture relationships with bequestors.
  • Create and execute a suite of engagement activities.
  • Review and rebrand bequest program, including collateral development.
  • Create and oversee schedule of engagement events for supporters, including concept development and execution with Events and Exhibition team.
  • Develop and implement targeted communication strategies for prospect and current major donors working with Communications and Marketing Lead.
  • Use data insights to understand major donor and bequest prospect behaviours and engagement patterns.
  • Develop a donor journey for supporters to connect with donors and acknowledge impact of their support.
  • Work with Botanic Gardens of Sydney to scope potential funding projects and work with their development team to ensure effective project delivery and reporting.
  • Collaborate with departments and external partners to create strong connections and support for the Botanic Gardens’ mission.

YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Demonstrated experience in major donor acquisition, stewardship, and/or bequest relationships management.
  • Relevant qualifications and/r experience in fundraising
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to cultivate strong relationships.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, prospect research and CRM database management.
  • An exceptional storyteller, engaging with ability to connect and understand donor requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders at a variety of levels.
  • Ability to work in small dynamic environment.
  • Experience paid or voluntary in not for profit (within environmental or cultural institution) highly regarded.
