This is a Part-time contract 17.5 hours/week until 30 June 2025, with the possibility of extension.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Level 4 SCHADS Award;
  • $85,121.40 - $91,600.60 per annum excluding super and attractive salary packaging options ($42,560.70 - $45,800.30 per annum at 0.5 FTE);
  • Four weeks of annual leave per annum plus leave loading as well as additional paid leave during the Christmas closure;
  • Caxton pays superannuation of 12.75% during the financial year of 2024 - 2025 and will return to the superannuation guarantee rate in 2025 - 2026;
  • Full time staff work a 35-hour week and we offer flexible working arrangements with the ability to work from home on agreed days as meets the need of the staff member and the organisation;
  • Staff are eligible to salary sacrifice a portion of their base salary (up to $15,900).

Caxton Community Legal Centre is a community legal centre whose purpose is to promote and protect human rights in Queensland through access to justice. Caxton provides accessible legal information so people know their rights and can prevent or respond to legal problems. Prioritising those who experience disadvantage, trauma and marginalisation, Caxton provides free, high-quality legal assistance and social supports.

This is a paralegal role in the Family, Domestic Violence and Elder Law Practice (FDVELP). The paralegal will provide support in the Family Law and Domestic Violence programs of Caxton, primarily assisting at the domestic and family violence and family law duty lawyer court services.

Key accountabilities

  • Undertake administrative tasks including processing client intake forms, conflict checking, file administration, filing and photocopying.

  • Conduct legal research, take instructions from clients, maintain accurate file notes and records of interview, draft correspondence, undertake legal tasks, prepare briefs to counsel, file court documents.

  • Provide community education support including assisting with preparing CLE resources, attending CLE sessions and providing legal information.

  • Attendance at aged care facilities and hospitals may be required to perform these duties

Essential requirements

  • A good level of computer literacy and competency in major administration software packages such as Microsoft (Outlook, Excel, Word), SharePoint and CLASS

  • Ability to ‘think on your feet' and work independently in the absence of specific instruction  

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and meet relevant deadlines  

  • Ability to appropriately deal with sensitive and highly confidential information with a high level of tact, discretion and judgement
