About the organisation:

C Care is a leading front-line community organisation, supporting and nourishing individuals and families experiencing disadvantage, food insecurity and social isolation. We provide a full range of tailored and personalised services including: nutritious ready-to-eat and culturally appropriate meals, fresh produce packs, bespoke pantry boxes and friendship programs.

C Care supports over 2,000 people experiencing hardship through the provision of: 2,450 meals every week, 600+ produce packs three weeks every month and 590+ pantry boxes every month. Our largely volunteer workforce provides over 150 shifts every week, delivering not only packs and produce but also building social connection and community.

The Head of Volunteer Services is a key position within our organisation, playing a hands-on role in ensuring the successful delivery of our weekly services. This role is essential in creating and maintaining a welcoming culture and an enjoyable experience for our volunteers. Additionally, you will lead the volunteer department staff and oversee the induction and regular training of volunteers. We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, and growing not-for-profit environment. This position can be either part-time or full-time, to be discussed.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, train, and maintain specialised volunteer roles, including case workers, kitchen hands, drivers, and ACVVS visitors
  • Take ownership of the volunteering space to ensure it is a sustainable, efficient and dependable resource support C Care's business model
  • Create a friendly, welcoming, and engaging environment for our volunteer community
  • Attract new volunteers through creative recruitment techniques, and effectively utilise their skills and passions
  • Lead and oversee weekly food preparation, packing, and delivery sessions
  • Ensure adequate volunteer staffing for all shifts, including forecasting needs
  • Oversee and deliver inductions and regular training programs for volunteers
  • Develop strong relationships with existing and new volunteers to ensure their experience at C Care is positive and valued
  • Maintain systems for tracking volunteer activities and implement new systems as appropriate
  • Coordinate, grow, and train session leaders
  • Maintain the volunteer database
  • Collaborate with other C Care team members to achieve desired outcomes
  • Manage corporate groups, school groups, and special group sessions
  • Be adaptable, hands-on, and proactive in leading new initiatives and projects to benefit the department

ABOUT YOU:

  • Proactive, outgoing, positive, and can-do attitude (essential)
  • Experience in a people-facing or volunteer management role (desired)
  • HR experience preferred (but not required)
  • Passion for giving back to the community and working in the not-for-profit sector
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively to achieve successful outcomes
  • Flexible, adaptable, and patient
  • Systemiser who takes initiative to streamline operations and creating efficiencies
  • Think end to end and take responsibility for seeing tasks through from start to finish
  • Digital native who has fun discovering and utilising new software systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
