The Senior Scientist is a significant position to work within our Translational Cancer Nanomedicine Group. In addition to supervising and providing guidance to post-doctoral researchers and students, the role undertakes and manages a major body of research that is core to the Group including pursuing their own grant-funded independent research. The Senior Scientist will represent the Group Leader as required in appropriate forums, present research at national and international conferences, supervise students, drive a substantial number of publications, and significantly contribute to obtaining grant funding for the Group.

As our Senior Scientist within our Translational Cancer Nanomedicine team your purpose will be to:

• Design research experiments and competitive research projects and conduct research independently and as part of a team
• Take a lead role in the preparation of manuscripts and reports and maintain a consistently strong publication record
• Participate in research projects beyond their own and foster new collaborations to enhance the exchange of ideas, techniques, and solutions for complex research challenges.
• Ensure compliance of Group’s research with ethics, intellectual property and gene technology requirements
• Prepare grant applications where required and review peer grant funding.
• Present at seminars and conferences, both inside and outside the Institute.
• Participate in teaching programs at UNSW and UNSW committees
• Manage, mentor, inspire, and encourage team members to help them with their personal career development plans and realise the team goals.
• Supervise and mentor honours/graduate/PhD students to help them with their personal career development plans and realise the team research goals.

To succeed you will have:

• A PhD in a relevant field such as pharmaceutical science, cancer biology, or immunology, with at least 7 years of post-doctoral experience.
• A notable record of scientific accomplishments, including a strong track record as a first author and emerging senior/co-senior author in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.
• Advanced research skills in a broad range of molecular and cell biology techniques, cancer models, and drug delivery.
• Demonstrated research independence and innovation, supported by competitive fellowships and grants.
• Proficiency in a broad range of molecular and cell biology techniques, cancer models, and drug delivery.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking, combined with excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Experience in leading and managing teams coupled with strong mentoring abilities.
