About the team
Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Australia and there are vast differences in smoking rates among different groups in our community. The Tobacco Control Unit works to reduce disparities in smoking prevalence between disadvantaged populations and the general population; reduce exposure to secondhand smoke; and control the supply of tobacco products, other nicotine delivery devices and any products that influence smoking. The Tobacco Control Unit are a high performing, fun and supportive team that are passionate about reducing the impact of smoking and vaping on our communities.
About the role
The key purpose of this role is to develop, deliver and evaluate innovative and engaging learning offerings, including training, on smoking and vaping cessation.
This role will be a 12-month contract and is open to both full time and part time. This position may be located at any of our CCNSW offices (Woolloomooloo, Byron Bay, Kotara, Coffs Harbour, Erina, Orange, Parramatta, Tamworth, or Wagga Wagga).
Key responsibilities of the role
- Develop and deliver innovative and engaging learning offerings including e-learning modules, facilitated training packages, webinars and communication pieces
- Evaluate the effectiveness of various learning offerings in line with program evaluation plans and ensure adherence to best practice industry standard
- Design and develop program content and modules by utilising instructional design skills in various technology platforms, including video editing and animation
- Develop and apply frameworks for the identification of learning needs among professionals working government, non-government, clinical and community settings
- Conduct thorough analyses to identify learning objectives, audience characteristics, and performance gaps
- Manage the Learning Management System and configuration of existing and new courses and content as required
- Develop, implement and maintain the Tackling Tobacco Training Strategy
- Develop resources and build training skills across the Tobacco Control Unit to support the delivery of smoking cessation training
- Undertake Quality Assurance activities and evaluations to support high quality learning environments
- Maintain an up-to-date and expert knowledge of adult learning principles
- Contribute to drafting reports and publishable journal articles relating to tobacco control research.
- Contribute to cross-organisational project teams to ensure actions are planned and executed in a timely manner
- Contribute to submissions to secure funding for Cancer Council NSW’s tobacco control initiatives
- Manage and support volunteers and student interns to increase the Tobacco Control Unit’s capacity
- Contribute to the strategic and operational plans of the Tobacco Control Unit
About you
Essential:
- Experience in designing and developing both online and face-to-face education
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110
- Ability to develop online resources using the Articulate authoring tool suite with superior visual design skills
- Effective project management skills, including specification of objectives, and delivery or implementation strategies including evaluation of processes, impacts and outcomes of public health interventions or policies
- Critical appraisal skills and ability to communicate complex scientific issues in simple form to technical and non-technical audiences, and to deliver effective verbal presentations
- High level written and oral communication skills
- High level computer literacy including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, presentations and databases
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, including coaching and developing others
- Demonstrated skills in working as part of a team as well as undertake self-directed work
Desirable:
- A Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, or related field
- Practical knowledge and understanding of addiction theory, behavioural change models, brief interventions, motivational interviewing, smoking cessation issues and methodologies
- Experience working in the health or community services sector
- Demonstrated interest in social justice and health equity
