About the team

The Philanthropy Unit plays a vital role in ensuring the future viability and growth of CCNSW by broadening and strengthening our fundraising base through the development of strong and lasting relationships with our major donors, corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, aligned to our brand. These relationships will deliver long term, sustainable income streams for the organisation from the business sector.

About the role:

To grow the value of Major Gifts and develop a best-in-class Major Gifts program for Cancer Council NSW. This will be a parental leave cover - 12 months.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Work closely with the CEO, Director Marketing & Fundraising, Philanthropy Unit Manager, and Philanthropy Team to develop and implement the Major Gifts strategy and secure donations toward prioritised funding projects identified by the organisation.
  • Develop and implement the strategic and operational plans for the major gifts team, aligned to the Divisional goal to grow high-value supporters.
  • Research and develop campaign plans, cases for support, donor consultations, major gift proposals, gift solicitation plans, and correspondence for major funding projects.
  • Manage consultant and agency partnerships related to the Major Gifts strategy.
  • Develop, steward, and grow relationships with major donors and prospects, in line with the overall team values and culture.
  • Manage major gift prospect pipeline, research and prospecting process, including major gift prospect lead generation from sources across the Marketing & Fundraising Division.
  • Lead and motivate a small, high-performing team, to reach agreed pipeline, income, and growth targets, and to implement new products e.g., Giving Circles.
  • Ensure key team processes and systems are adhered to and up-to-date including, prospect research, development of opportunities, tracking of key interactions, and reporting.
  • Work closely with the Events Lead on the execution of key event-based donor engagement activity, including thank you events, lab tours, and webinar series.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the Marketing & Fundraising Division on the ongoing implementation of the High-Value Recognition Framework and manage recognition for the major donor portfolio, in line with policies and procedures.

About you

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline and/or demonstrate transferable skills in a similar or related role.
  • 5+ years’ experience in relationship fundraising.
  • A proven track record in leading the strategy to grow a major gift program.
  • A proven track record of building high value relationships to acquire and retain major donors.
  • A proven track record to engage major donors and report on the impact of high value gifts
  • The ability to work with senior stakeholders to package and present philanthropic products which align to organisational plans
  • A high level of attention to detail, with exemplary research, writing and analytical skill sets.
  • Strong relationship, influencing, networking and communication skills and proven ability to develop productive, results-focused relationships.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • A collaborative working style, with exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • High level of competency with excel, word, PowerPoint and basic understanding of databases.
