About the team

Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Australia and there are vast differences in smoking rates among different groups in our community. The Tobacco Control Unit works to reduce disparities in smoking prevalence between disadvantaged populations and the general population; reduce exposure to secondhand smoke; and control the supply of tobacco products, other nicotine delivery devices and any products that influence smoking. The Tobacco Control Unit are a high performing, fun and supportive team that are passionate about reducing the impact of smoking and vaping on our communities.

About the role

The key purpose of this role is to lead the development of a national, co-designed digital platform and tools to support vaping cessation for young people in Australia.

This role will be a 24-month contract and is open to both full time and part time. This position may be located at any of our CCNSW offices (Woolloomooloo, Byron Bay, Kotara, Coffs Harbour, Erina, Orange, Parramatta, Wollongong, Tamworth, or Wagga Wagga).

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Coordinate the development of a digital platform and support service informed by behavioural research, user-centred design and best digital practice for young people.
  • Undertake project management activities including development of project collateral in conjunction with the internal team and associated expert advisory group(s) as required, project planning and documentation, implementation, monitoring and reporting on progress, providing recommendations to manage risk, identifying, and resolving problems.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and expert knowledge of digital health best practice and engagement with young people.
  • Scope, develop and implement research, policy and/or communication projects to strengthen the evidence-base for tobacco and e-cigarette control programs for young people.
  • Lead the development of reports and publishable journal articles relating to tobacco control and vaping cessation programs and policy research for young people.
  • Contribute to submissions to secure funding for Cancer Council NSW’s tobacco control initiatives.
  • Manage and support volunteers and student interns to increase the Tobacco Control Unit’s capacity.
  • Contribute to the strategic and operational plans of the Tobacco Control Unit.

About you

Essential

  • Relevant post graduate qualification in Behavioural Science, Public Health or Information and Communication Technology or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing digital health-based projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of User Experience and/or co-design principles and practices applied to the design and development of online and multimedia projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and managing projects within specified timelines and budgetary limits, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management, ideally in digital health-related projects.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholder audiences at all levels and in different formats to explain complex technical and clinical issues simply.
  • Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, in particular, an excellent ability to consult and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability in research and analytical skills.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in behavioural science or public health
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tobacco and vaping cessation or addictions science
  • Experience in engaging with young people
