CEHL is Australia's largest cooperative housing provider. We manage a portfolio of more than 2,000 housing properties throughout Victoria and partner with over 90 co-ops to provide safe, secure, affordable housing to 5,000 co-op members, renters, and the broader community.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

CEHL is focused on creating positive housing outcomes for our partner housing co-operatives, co-op members and renters. We are looking for a Finance Officer to join the Financial Services Team. In this role you will work with member co-operatives to support them in completing financial services and legislative obligations and carry out bookkeeping services in agreed timelines. Key accountabilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide advice and support to member co-ops regarding a variety of financial processes including (but not limited to) rent calculations, assessments, and pre-audit services.
  • Support member co-ops to meet their legislative obligations pertaining to compliance and financial reporting (ATO, ACNC, ASIC, VHR).
  • Provide member co-ops with appropriate tools and resources to understand their financial information and any associated or potential risks.
  • Carry out bookkeeping services ensuring all processes are undertaken and completed in accordance with agreed timelines.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • 3-5 years proven experience in a similar role with a strong grasp of financial accounting and bookkeeping processes.
  • Verbal and written communication skills appropriate for stakeholders with varying degrees of financial knowledge and understanding.
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport and build effective relationships with a broad variety of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills supported by high level adaptability and confidence to work with accounting systems and platforms.
  • An understanding of the requirements of GST legislation (Australian Taxation Office), Australian Charities and Not For Profit Commission (ACNC), Fringe Benefits, and the Privacy Act.
