Common Equity Housing Ltd (CEHL), is Australia’s largest provider of co-operative housing. It provides appropriate, secure and affordable housing and fosters rental housing co-operatives to thrive so that more Victorians experience the dignity of a home in a community guided by the 7 international co-operative principles. With a portfolio of more than 2000 properties, managed by 90+ housing co-operatives, CEHL provides local and national co-operative housing sector leadership and advocacy to deliver positive solutions to the housing affordability crisis.

Our strategic objective is to sustainably maintain and grow our housing portfolio and our organisational impact. The strategy has three pillars.

ABOUT THE COMMITTEE

Three Board Committees support the work of the board:

  • Property
  • Finance, Audit & Risk
  • People, Culture & Governance

Committees generally meet bi-monthly for up to three hours. From time to time, additional meetings may be required. Meetings are held in person, at CEHL’s office in Carlton, or online (at the discretion of the Chair).

The Board has established the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee to support it to discharge its responsibilities regarding:

  • Financial management
  • Financial reporting, annual audit, and internal audit plans
  • Insurance
  • Risk identification and management and
  • Finance related risks

Financial Reports, CEHL’s Risk Register and Financial and Risk policies are the core documents the Committee monitors and reviews.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The ideal candidate will have:

  • a CA, CPA, or other relevant qualification.
  • demonstrated Board experience and a genuine interest in CEHL and our work.
  • a solid professional background in risk management as a senior executive, director, or partner.
  • the ability to provide independent strategic advice on CEHL’s key risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • the ability to contribute to the development of a strong risk culture.

OTHER INFORMATION

CEHL will provide the Independent Adviser with a Deed of Indemnity, Insurance and Access.

The Independent Committee Member is paid a fee (currently $1,950.00 p/a) plus reasonable travel reimbursement for in-person meeting attendance.
